Essays of Interest

If you are looking for some solid essays about painting, I would highly recommend reading the works of Laurie Fendrich.  Fendrich is an abstract painter who does not suffer from the common afflictions normally associated with abstract painting (namely delusions of grandeur and rebellion, and/or as a herald of some type of utopia).  She is keenly, possibly painfully, aware of the role painting plays in our society and seems to be okay with that.  You can find links to her essays from her webpage at http://people.hofstra.edu/faculty/Laurie_Fendrich/  I found them both informative and fun to read.
